The Masovian Voivode, Mariusz Frankowski, has signed the location decision for the construction of Warszawa-Modlin airport railway, with works scheduled to begin in 2026 and passengers to use the line in 2029.

The construction of a direct rail line towards the airport is carried out by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe, with funding for the design phase provided by the Masovian Voivodeship government.
The estimated cost of the project is PLN 256 million (EUR 61 million). Between 2016 and 2026, the Masovian Voivodeship government allocated PLN 21 million (EUR 5 million) for pre-design and design work. The construction is expected to be co-financed from the “European Funds for Mazovia 2021–2027” programme.
The new 5.5 km double track line will start from Modlin railway station, which will be also modernised and an additional track and a 200-metre-long platform will be built. A new above-ground station will be built near the airport, close to the existing roundabout, along with a freight station. The works will also involve nearby road infrastructure, including the construction of three overpasses and one on the airport service road, all of which will cross over the new rail line.
“The new rail line will integrate air and rail transport. Passengers will benefit from convenient and direct connections, including to Chopin Airport. This investment will definitely support the growth of Warsaw-Modlin Airport, which plans to increase its capacity and open new routes,” said Marshal Adam Struzik, the Marshal of Masovian Voivodeship.

The location decision for the construction of Warszawa-Modlin airport railway and airport station is a milestone, enabling the transition to the implementation phase of this important project.
“I have issued a strategic decision that accelerates the development of Modlin Airport – an airport whose growth has been unjustly suppressed for years. This decision strengthens the region’s economic development at the national level. Entrepreneurs, residents, and tourists visiting central Poland will all benefit,” emphasised Mariusz Frankowski, Masovian Voivode.
At the end of 2023, PKP PLK awarded the design documentation contract for the project.
The new rail line will eliminate current difficulties in reaching the airport as currently, passengers must transfer from the train to a bus to reach the terminal.
“A direct rail link to Modlin Airport is a step towards a modern and integrated transport system – something both residents and travellers have long hoped for,” said Maciej Kaczorek, Member of the Management Board and Director of Strategy and Development at PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe.
