Level crossings in Melbourne to be replaced with elevated railway

01-melbourneThe state of Victoria (Australia) has presented the designs for a project to replace a series of level crossings at Corrigan, Heatherton and Chandler Roads in Melbourne with a 2.7 km elevated line. The value of the project is AU$ 1.6 bn (EUR 1 bn). The elevated design will reduce rail noise at the street level. It will also spare train passengers and drivers disruption during construction, as the majority of the work can be completed with trains and roads running normally.
The project will also ensure that the current rail line that divides the suburb of Noble Park will become new open community space, with new parks, playgrounds, sporting facilities, car parking and a range of other uses that will be chosen by locals.
