Lendlease to electrify Adelaide’s commuter line

South Australia’s Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure appointed Lendlease as the contractor for the design and construction of the first stage between Adelaide and Salisbury, within Gawler electrification project. The value of the contract is AUD 615 million (USD 490 million) and consists of the first 20 km section (between) Adelaide and Salisbury.
Detailed design works will commence early this year, with electrification works anticipated to start by the third quarter of 2018.
The first stage of the project involves the installation of the 25kV overhead wiring and signalling system as well as a new fibre optic communications system,
“This investment by the State Government will see a significant expansion of Adelaide’s electrified rail network, ensuring services between Adelaide and Salisbury are faster, cleaner and more frequent,” Craig Laslett, CEO Engineering & Services, Lendlease said.
The electrification of the Gawler Rail Line will deliver faster, safer and more reliable rail services for the northern suburbs which will encourage more people to leave the car at home and take public transport.
