Koleje Mazowieckie orders 14 more Flirt trains

Polish regional railway operator Koleje Mazowieckie has signed an agreement with Stadler for 14 additional Flirt electric multiple units (EMUs). This latest contract strengthens the operator’s commitment to enhancing passenger safety and comfort across the Mazovia region. With this order, Stadler will deliver a total of 64 Flirt trains to Koleje Mazowieckie over the coming years.

This agreement marks the third of four executive contracts under the framework agreement signed in June last year. The first trains from this batch are expected to be delivered within 24 months, alongside an 18-year maintenance contract.

“Thanks to funds obtained from the European Funds for Mazovia 2021-2027 programme, we are signing another executive contract. Including the contracts already signed, Koleje Mazowieckie will acquire 64 five-car Flirt electric multiple units. Our goal for the coming years is to purchase as many as 75 of these vehicles. This is not only an investment in modern rolling stock but also in the future of the entire region,” said Robert Stępień, CEO of Koleje Mazowieckie.

Stadler’s Flirt trains are designed for energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness, featuring lightweight aluminium construction. “The new five-car Flirt trainsets make use of modern technologies to reduce energy consumption and, consequently, lower operational costs. This is extremely important, as governments around the world strive to achieve net zero,” commented Czesław Sulima, Board Member and Operations Director of Koleje Mazowieckie.

Koleje Mazowieckie already operates 71 Flirt trains

Koleje Mazowieckie already operates 71 Flirt trains, with additional units currently being produced as part of previous contracts. All trains are being manufactured at Stadler Polska’s plant in Siedlce, creating 200 new jobs and supporting local suppliers.

“I am very pleased with the agreement with Koleje Mazowieckie for another 14 vehicles. The Masovian operator has been a key client and partner for us since the beginning of our operations in Poland,” said Radosław Banach, CEO of Stadler Polska. “Thanks to orders from KM, we increase employment at our Siedlce plant by another 200 people. This is also great news for our suppliers and partners, who will work with us to fulfil this order.”

Flirt is one of Stadler’s best-selling train models, with over 2,750 units sold worldwide. The Flirt trains for Koleje Mazowieckie feature:

  • Spacious, low-floor entrances for easy access
