JV created for Santa Maria Railroad

 Santa Maria Railroad

A joint venture comprising OmniTrax and Coast Belle Rail Corporation has acquired Santa Maria Railroad in California.

Coast Belle Rail Corporation has been the local owner of the 114-year-old Santa Maria Railroad for the past two decades. The railway’s system consists of 14.7 miles (23.6 km) of main line track interchanging with the Union Pacific Railroad in Guadalupe that serves commercial and commodity customers in the Santa Maria Valley. Numerous sidings and branches along the line support future growth capacity. For freight customers without direct rail access, transload facilities are available at the Osburn Rail Yard in Santa Maria.

“The Santa Maria Railroad has been vital to the valley for decades and this new partnership adds the resources, relationships, and real estate development capacities to ensure that this century old railways continues to serve Californians for generations to come,” the president of Santa Maria Valley Railroad, Rob Himoto, said.

The partnership between the two companies will stimulate and develop the logistics and transport sector in the region, relying on the experience of OmniTrax, which operates 29 railways serving ports and industrial parks in the USA. By combining rail and real estate expertise, OmniTrax continues to power major industrial hubs spanning from California to Georgia.

The line is located about 400 km south of San Francisco and 280 km north of Los Angeles on the Central Coast of California. The line provides Central Coast Valley commercial and agricultural customers a vital freight connection to coastal ports and the North American rail freight network.

This rail connection provides the most efficient, cost effective, and environmentally friendly way to transport products to any location in the continental United States served by the national railway network. Products can also be transported to Canada and Mexico and to the ports for overseas delivery.
