Italferr becomes FS Engineering and accelerates global railway engineering

To promote integrated, hi-tech, and digital engineering worldwide, Italferr, the railway engineering company of the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS Group), has become FS Engineering.

The announcement was made by Italferr’s General Manager, Dario Lo Bosco, on February 5, when he officially presented the new rebranding project. The event was also attended by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, the CEO of the FS Group, Stefano Antonio Donnarumma, the President of the FS Group, Tommaso Tanzilli, and the President of FS Engineering, Laura Martiniello.

The new corporate name represents the culmination of a growth path that, over more than 40 years, has consolidated the company as a global driver of Italian hi-tech engineering. The railway engineering company is active in 15 countries on 5 continents and aims to progressively expand its field of activity beyond the national railway sector and sustainable mobility.

Digital platforms and international expertise

Through its 4D and 5D BIM platforms and subsequent developments, in which it is a leader, FS Engineering aims to position itself as a highly specialized engineering hub for the entire Group, serving the country and acting as a designer for major civil engineering and innovation projects at an international level.

The name FS Engineering highlights the uniqueness of the know-how developed in the field of digital construction site engineering, advanced intelligent systems and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies, as well as multidisciplinary research and academic partnerships. FS Engineering takes over from Italferr, which had already established itself in the transport, energy, water, construction, urban planning, and mobility, logistics, and environmental hub integration sectors.

Sustainability, safety, and cutting-edge technology at the heart of the business

FS Engineering aims to position itself as an infrastructure technology company, where traditional engineering is integrated with Big Data, IoT, and ESG criteria, placing sustainability, intrinsic safety of works, and planned maintenance throughout the life cycle at the heart of its business. The company also leverages its unique experience in Digital Twins.

The transition to FS Engineering aligns the brand identity with that of leading international players in engineering, enabling competition in the global markets of complex infrastructure and digital construction sites, with a particular focus on workplace safety and the use of artificial intelligence, in line with the corporate mission. It also strengthens international cooperation, following the FS Group’s strategies and the guidelines of MIT and the Italian Government.

The consolidation of FS Engineering’s market position is part of the FS Group’s 2029 strategic plan, which envisages a total investment of EUR 100 billion in infrastructure. In addition, in the railway segment, FS Italiane will invest EUR 20 billion in technology and digitalisation projects.
