Istanbul opens bids for 7 new metro lines

Istanbul metro-harta map_map-istanbul-public-transport-metro-metrobus-train-tramwayIstanbul Metropolitan Municipality announces that starting July it will organise several tenders for the construction of new metro lines. Hence, the tender for the Basaksehir – Kayasehir metro section will be held on July 12th. The section starts from the last station of Kirazli-Basaksehir metro line and ends in Kayasehir.

The tender for Cekmekoy – Sultanbeyli and Hastane – Yenidogan metro lines will be held on July 14th. The Cekmekoy – Sultanbeyli line starts from the last station of Uskudar – Cekmekoy metro line and ends in Sultanbeyli. These two lines are located on the Asian side of Istanbul.

On the 15th of July tenders are announced for the Kaynarca – Tuzla and Kaynarca – Pendik metro lines. The Kaynarca-Tuzla metro line will start from the last station of Kadikoy – Kartal – Kaynarca line.

For the Kirazli – Halkali metro section the tender is scheduled for July 18th. This line will connect the metro hub Kirazli to Marmaray’s last station Halkali.

Next, on the 20th of July, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality organises tender for the Goztepe – Atasehir – Umraniye metro line. This metro line connects with Marmaray metro, Kadikoy – Kartal and Uskudar-Cekmekoy metro lines.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s continuous projects to build new metro lines will ease the city’s ongoing congested traffic problem and commuters will rarely use their vehicles, said Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbaş. Efforts to expand the metro line, which was only 45 kilometers long a decade ago, are still underway with new lines planned to reach as far as Beylikdüzü on the European side to Pendik on the Asian side.
