Key notes from the opening ceremony of last year…

NO ONE CAN PREVENT THE DEVELOPMENT BOOM OF THE RAILWAY INDUSTRY

Mr. Binali Yildirim, the minister of Transportation from Turkey who made the opening speech at the 2011 exhibition said that it was such a success for Eurasia Rail exhibition which was firstly organized in Turkey to host 120 companies from 20 different countries. He added that one of the key factors for the exhibition to be this successful is with the support of TCDD. He declared that: “The railway industry in Turkey has slowly started to attract investments from the European, Middle Asian, Far Eastern and American governments. Though the economic crisis in the world has partially affected the industry, the situation was handled quickly and thus making an investment at the railway industry means making an investment to the future. Turkey invested 20 billion Turkish liras in the last 8 years.” He also informed that: “In Turkey, between the years 1950-2000 railway construction has almost come to the point to be forgotten and stopped. Railways were about to disappear half a century ago. We gained our independence with railways. Railways in Turkey are not only carriage vehicle but also a symbol of culture, independence, economic development and boom. We will invest 50 billion Turkish liras to the railways which include the completed and the future-oriented projects.”

Passenger Percentage will reach 20 %

Mr. Yildirim added that it was so outdated for the 90% of the railways in Turkey having no signals and being on one-line. Thus, all the railways in Turkey should have signals, be on double-lines and in the upcoming 12-15 years, 11.000 kilometers of new railway lines will be added to increase the carrying capacity of the passengers by % 20. The minister added that there was an ecosystem in the Turkish railways systems and everyone should be a part of that system. The 50 international exhibitors can cooperate with the national colleagues and they can render their services in Turkey and the neighboring countries.

Railways are at the point of interest for the private industry

The general manager of TCDD, Mr. Suleyman Karaman who spoke at the opening ceremony of the exhibition said that: “Turkey is trying to make up for the 50 years of negligence for the railway constructions with the new investments being made. With the investments, railways became the point

of interest for the private industry. He added that until 2023, they are aiming to construct 10.000 km fast track and 4.000 km conventional line. With this goal in mind, Mr. Karaman said that the railway industry will develop and also with the opening of Eurasia Rail, the railway systems will open new doors in Turkey.
