Nearly 300 companies will be presenting solutions for railway vehicle interiors at InnoTrans 2026, ranging from seats that leave the floor completely unobstructed and tool-free fastening systems to on-board restaurants with automated logistics and personalisation using artificial intelligence. The interiors zone will cover approximately 15,000 square metres at Messe Berlin.
Train interiors are becoming one of the areas where manufacturers are striving to balance an increasing number of requirements: passenger comfort, design, operating costs, maintenance and sustainability. At InnoTrans 2026, nearly 300 exhibitors from Europe, Africa and the Middle East will showcase their solutions in Halls 1.1, 3.1 and 5.1 of the Berlin exhibition centre.
“Vehicle interiors are becoming increasingly important for the rail industry: this is where passengers’ expectations meet operators’ requirements head-on,” says Kerstin Schulz, Director of InnoTrans.
According to her, comfort and attractive design must be taken into account alongside ease of maintenance, cost-effectiveness and sustainability, and new materials and smart technologies aim to meet all these requirements simultaneously.
Wall-mounted seats and carpets that can be replaced without tools
Among the solutions to be showcased in Berlin is a new seat concept developed by Clerprem, an Italian manufacturer of vehicle interior components and equipment.
The seats are wall-mounted, leaving the floor clear. The solution is designed to make cleaning easier and reduce the time required for maintenance work.
The German company Gottlieb Binder will, in turn, be presenting reusable fastening systems that simplify the replacement of floor coverings. TUFF solutions allow carpets to be fitted without tools, reducing the time required for maintenance work.
Another innovation comes from Spain. Luznor Desarrollos Electrónicos, a manufacturer of electronic equipment, will present a programmable LED signal lamp that can be used both for lighting and as a safety device.
The equipment is designed for maintenance and inspection work, rolling stock manoeuvres and emergency evacuations.
The on-board restaurant enters the era of artificial intelligence
A separate area will be dedicated to on-board catering and comfort services. The Travel Catering & Comfort Services segment will bring together 18 exhibitors, and companies participating in InnoTrans for the first time include the Bucher Group, Kugel Elektro- & Metalltechnik, IVS Rail and DE. CAP.
One of the new features announced for this edition is the ‘Panarooma’ concept from the Bucher Group.
This combines automated logistics, AI-assisted personalisation and flexibly configurable lounge areas into a new on-board restaurant concept designed for rail transport.
Solutions in this area therefore no longer focus solely on how food is served, but also on the organisation of space, supply chains and the adaptation of services to passengers’ needs.
Railway design and catering on the InnoTrans programme
The theme of interiors will also feature in the conference programme at InnoTrans 2026.
On 23 September, the International Design Forum, held at the International Design Centre Berlin, will bring together specialists for a discussion on user-centred interior design solutions tailored to the requirements of various mobility sectors.
Also on 23 September, the International Rail Catering Group will host the Hospitality Forum, dedicated to new concepts and technologies for on-board catering services.
The circular economy will also feature in the programme. Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Circular Plastics Economy, a German research initiative dedicated to the circular economy of plastics, will present solutions through which plastic from end-of-life products can be reused in industrial applications to high standards.
The interiors zone at InnoTrans 2026 will therefore focus not only on comfort and design, but also on reducing operating costs, simplifying maintenance and utilising more sustainable solutions.
