Spain’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility will launch an early morning train service on the Granada – Madrid high-speed line on April 23, 2025, part of the minister Óscar Puente plan to schedule a high-speed train early in the morning to improve connectivity in the province and facilitate travel for business purposes.
Renfe has already put tickets on sale for this early morning service, which will run Monday through Friday. Departure time from Granada station will be 6:12 a.m. and arrival time will be 9:44 a.m., approximately 48 minutes earlier than the current service.
The travel time between the two capitals will be 3 hours 32 minutes, 5 minutes less than the current duration, with intermediate stops in Loja, Antequera Alta Velocidad (High Speed Train), Antequera Santa Ana, and Córdoba.
The goal of this early morning train service is to improve connectivity, optimise service offerings, and facilitate the mobility of travelers traveling for work or business purposes who need to arrive in the Spanish capital earlier.
This measure is part of a comprehensive improvement programme aimed at optimising connectivity between Granada and Madrid and offering a competitive schedule that responds to traveler demand and preferences. With this early morning schedule adjustment, Renfe continues to work and develop improvements to bring the distances between the two capitals closer together and shorter.
Renfe offers a daily schedule of six AVE services for travel on the Granada – Madrid route, which translates to nearly 2,000 seats per day. In addition to these high-speed trains, there are two other direct daily Alvia services on the Almería – Granada – Madrid route, with more than 500 seats per day.
In addition, to improve rail connections and deliver better and increased services, Renfe announced it will launch two new Barcelona – Málaga AVE trains running between Catalonia, Madrid, and Andalusia.
The two new through trains that will connect the cities of Barcelona, Madrid, Córdoba, and Málaga. These new direct AVE services will be added to the company’s existing schedule on the Barcelona – Madrid – Málaga route, which, starting Tuesday, April 8, will increase to 51 direct AVE trains per week. In addition, Renfe offers numerous combined travel options under a single ticket and guaranteed connection.
