Hyderabad metro services launched

At the end of November, the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi officially launched the first passenger services on Hyderabad metro network, on the initially 30 km section. Keolis is providing the services on the new automated metro section running from Myapur to Ameerpet and on from Ameerpet to Nagole.
Expected to carry 1.3 million passengers daily when fully operational, the Hyderabad metro will help to reduce road congestion and boost the local economy.
The new sections are due to be opened in the next few years delivering a 68 km metro network, with three lines and 65 stations.
The Hyderabad metro network is equipped with CBTC technology, which allows for higher frequencies and speeds for passenger journeys. The service will connect major businesses and residential areas to the city.
Keolis was awarded the operations and maintenance contract in 2012 by the concessionaire L&T Metro
Rail. The core elements of the contract include operating and maintaining the metro trainsets, as well as
stations, depots, track, signalling, telecommunications, ticketing systems and ticket sales at stations.
Hyundai Rotem was awarded the USD 324 million contract for the supply of 57 three-car trainsets for the Hyderabad Metro Rail.
