Honolulu needs tax money to finish rail project

honoluluHonolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell told state lawmakers that the city needs more money to finish building Oahu’s rail transit project. Up to present, investments in the project have cumulated $5.2 billion (4.6 billion euros), and the cost is growing. Accordingly, he asked that the time limit on a part of the general excise tax that goes to rail be lifted. The tax expires in 2022. Oahu’s multibillion-dollar rail project had been on hold for about a year, until work finally started in September 2013.
