GMV to equip Talgo sleeper trains for Egypt

Spanish technology company GMV has been selected by Talgo to supply intelligent transport systems (ITS) for the new fleet of sleeper trains being built for Egyptian National Railways (ENR). The agreement includes advanced solutions for public address, intercom, video surveillance and onboard communications, all developed using GMV’s proprietary technology.

The systems are designed to improve operational safety, communication efficiency and passenger comfort. The public address and intercom systems will enable train crews to make announcements, issue safety warnings, and maintain communication with passengers during both normal and emergency situations.

The video surveillance (CCTV) system will feature a digital network video recorder (NVR) and a network of IP cameras installed throughout the trains, complemented by touchscreen monitors in the control cabins for real-time monitoring.

Meanwhile, the mobile communication gateway (MCG) will gather diagnostic data from onboard systems and transmit it to central servers for analysis and performance monitoring. All components will be fully integrated with the train’s existing control and monitoring architecture, ensuring seamless interoperability and efficient operation.

Strengthening partnership with Talgo

This latest contract consolidates GMV’s long-standing collaboration with Talgo on international rolling-stock projects, ranging from new train manufacturing to modernisation of existing fleets.

The cooperation between the two Spanish firms underscores their shared focus on innovation, digitalisation and reliability in the global rail sector. The new project also reinforces GMV’s position as a key technology partner for train manufacturers and operators seeking to enhance fleet safety and performance.

Supporting Egypt’s rail modernisation

The sleeper trains, built by Talgo for ENR, are part of Egypt’s wider programme to modernise its passenger rail services and improve comfort on long-distance routes. By integrating GMV’s digital systems, the new fleet will benefit from advanced safety monitoring, real-time data management and more efficient communications.

GMV, which operates in 35 countries across five continents, specialises in the development of intelligent transport systems based on IoT, mobile communications and GNSS technologies. Its ITS solutions are used by more than 1,000 clients worldwide to optimise service quality, reduce operational costs and improve the passenger experience.
