First EMU for LTG Link arrives in Lithuania

LTG Link, Lithuania’s rail operator, welcomed its first Stadler Flirt EMU, during the night of 13 October, and preparatory work will be carried out, after which rolling stock testing is set to begin.

The new EMU came from manufacture’s factory in Poland and will be used on lines with 1 520 mm gauge.

Due to the different rail gauge widths and varying train dimensions between Poland and Lithuania, the new electric train arrived at the Vilnius Intermodal Terminal overnight in separate carriages, transported by lorry. In the next few days, the carriages will be mounted onto bogies and assembled into a complete train. Dynamic testing of the unit is scheduled to begin at the end of October, and passengers are expected to be offered the chance to experience the train next year.

The first Stadler Flirt EMU for Lithuania “is not only a technological achievement, but also a reflection of our team’s commitment to passengers. We aim to make train travel both sustainable and comfortable, and these new trains will turn that ambition into an everyday reality,” Egidijus Lazauskas, the CEO of the LTG Group said, while celebrating the historic and long-anticipated milestone.

The new electric trains will be spacious, more comfortable, and fully accessible, including for passengers with reduced mobility.

For the first time in decades, a bistro area has been reintroduced, allowing passengers to purchase hot meals and drinks during their journey. Additional bike storage and easy-access ramps will ensure smooth movement inside the train, while the increased passenger capacity will help manage peak-time demand more efficiently.

In 2023, Stadler signed a contract with LTG Link for the delivery of 15 Flirt EMUs including an option for up to 13 Flirt Intercity EMUs and 26 battery-electric Flirt trains.

This unit is the first of 15 new trains that will be added to the LTG Link fleet, the passenger transport subsidiary of the LTG Group, significantly contributing to cleaner, more comfortable rail travel across the country.
