EU funding for Prague railway project

cdThe European Commission has adopted a major project worth EUR 46.6 million from the Cohesion Fund in order to improve the railway network in the eastern part of Prague and Region of Central Bohemia.
The Prague railway node is part of the TEN-T core network, on the railway line Athens – Sofia – Budapest – Vienna – Prague – Nuremberg/Dresden. This specific section is characterized by high-density passenger and freight transport. This applies to suburban (Úvaly), metropolitan (Praha Klánovice), regional (Kolín, Pardubice), inter-city (Brno, Ostrava) and international rail transport (Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Poland).
Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Creţu said: “This project shows ESI Funds invest in environment-friendly transport solutions. It will increase speed parameters on the main railway corridor in order to reduce the travel time of train services which will contribute to the competiveness of the railways in the Czech Republic and central Europe. Travelers will benefit from shorter travel times and improved comfort.”
