Drop in freight volumes for EVR Cargo

03-evr cargoThe freight volumes transported by the Estonian state-owned railway company EVR Cargo in September 2015 fell by 38% in comparison with September last year, reaching 767,000 tonnes. By comparison with the volumes transported in August, there was however a slight increase, of 8%. Huge drops were reported for the transport of mineral fuels (-58%), oil shale (-51%) and containers (-48%).
In the first nine months of the year, EVR Cargo transported 8.7 mln tonnes of cargo (-23%). Mineral liquid fuels’ volume decreased by 34%, while container transport fell by 41% in the same period.
Although some improvement is foreseen, recovery of cargo transport volumes to former levels cannot be expected in the near future, according to EVR Cargo board chairman Ahto Altjõe.
