Czech Rep.: works on rail bridge on Chomutov – Cheb line finished

SZDCCzech Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC) finished a complex reconstruction of the railway bridge near Ostrov in Karlovy Vary Region on the line Chomutov – Cheb. The construction has as objective to preserve operation on a double-track line with a required line category, track clearance and line speed. The double-track electrified line Chomutov – Cheb is an important route of the railway network in the Czech Republic and part of the railway line connecting the cities Ústí nad Labem and Cheb.
The project concerned the bearing structure under Track No 2 and partially also the foundation, the reconstruction of which will allow the bridge to bear increased traffic load safely. At the same time, the foundation’ shape has been adapted to match the new construction. The project starts from the global objective of the Operational programme Transport – Priority Axis 1 to improve railway transport on the Trans-European railway network.
