Club Feroviar Conferences 2012 debate on Romania’s major railway projects

Generating railway business projects and ideas Club Feroviar Conference on ”Infrastructure development – policies, projects and technologies“,  7th edition , organised by Club Feroviar and the Romanian Railway Industry Association will...The launch of new railway infrastructure projects and their prioritization in transport policies determine Romania to re-establish its position between European states focusing on the development of an environmentally friendly, efficient and quality transport. For the national railway transport system, 2011 marked the continuation of all the existing projects and the foundation of new ones to be initiated in 2012, as massive investments in the rail and urban transport have been announced.

Investments exceeding EUR 7 Billion are expected to be directed to the rehabilitation and modernisation of the infrastructure, as well as to the projects in preparation for Corridor IV. For the next period, CFR SA has signed three major contracts through the SOP-T programme 2007-2013, estimated at more than EUR 700 Million.

As regards the Connecting Europe railway infrastructure rehabilitation projects, EU co-financed projects, Romania ranks first in Top 27 European projects. “A major part of the pan-European Corridor IV linking Dresda to Constanţa will be finalized in 2015 and it will link Romania to Central Europe. Also, our main objective is to finalize the projects for the rehabilitation of this section and to focus on having projects for the financial period 2014-2020”, declared Marius Corduneanu, Deputy General Manager CFR SA for European projects, who will debate on these projects during Club Feroviar Conferences 2012 on infrastructure “The development of the railway infrastructure – policies, projects and technologies, organised by Club Feroviar and the Romanian Railway Industry Asssociation (AIF), an event organised on 22-23 February 2012 in Sibiu (Romania).

The conference will also put in discussion urban transport projects that benefit from financing. Thus, there are several projects announced in the underground transport system. At the end of 2011, Metrorex announced the launch of the Line 6 project to Otopeni Airport by signing the consultancy contract estimated at more than EUR 60 Million. The entire project is estimated at EUR 1 Billion. A new project is the extension of Line 4 by launching an international tender for the development of the line section Parc Bazilescu – Străulești. The contract is estimated at more than EUR 200 Million. For the development of Line 5 project, Metrorex has accessed a credit of EUR 900 Million, EUR 465 Million of which come from the EIB and the rest from the state budget. Currently, Metrorex has EUR 2 Billion allocated to development projects. Also, the underground transport company could be included on the future list of the Sectoral Operational Programme – Transport 2014-2020 to benefit from EU financing.
The conclusion of the conference on infrastructure projects will represent the foundation of a series of actions to be included in the “Romania Railway Platform 2020”.
