China to invest USD 550 billion in railway projects

chinaChina’s National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Transport have launched a three-year action plan that envisages the improvement of the infrastructure. According to the plan, the values of the needed investment is CNY 4.7 trillion (USD 718.5 billion).
The plan includes 303 transport projects for railways, urban rail transport, waterways, airports and highways.
For railway projects, China wants to invest a total of CNY 3.6 trillion (USD 550 billion) to build and modernise railway infrastructure.
For railway transport, the authorities intend to invest CNY 2 trillion (USD 305 billion) for 86 projects that include the construction and rehabilitation of 20,000 km of rail lines.
CNY 1.6 trillion (USD 244.6 billion) will be invested in 103 urban rail projects. Witihin this investment, the authorities will build 2,000 km of new lines.
