China to modernise Serbia’s passenger locomotives

Serbian rail passenger transport operator Srbija Voz signed an agreement for the overhaul of five locomotives with Chinese company Zhuzhou Locomotives. The value of the order is EUR 3.49 million. The contract will be financed with the proceeds of a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)
The locomotives will be used in Belgrade’s urban rail system, Beovoz, and the regional transport network of Srbija Voz. The EBRD said in November 2016 it reallocated an existing sovereign guaranteed loan of EUR 95 million to state-owned Serbian Railways, following a decision of the Serbian government to unbundle the vertically integrated group.
