CFR Călători resumes service to Bulgaria and Turkiye

CFR Călători, Romania’s passenger rail operator, announces the resumption of service for the “Romania” international train, which will provide daily direct connections between Bucharest and destinations in Bulgaria and Turkiye from June 12 to October 12, 2026.

Thus, starting June 12, 2026, passengers will be able to travel directly to Varna, and starting June 13, direct connections to Sofia and Istanbul/Halkali will also be available.

Through these direct international routes, CFR Călători supports passengers who choose to spend their vacations in Bulgaria and Turkiye, offering a comfortable and affordable travel option.

Schedule and Fares

VARNAThe price of a one-way ticket from Bucharest North to Varna (or return), in 2nd class, is 27 EUR.

  • International Train “Romania” 461 (461/9623): Bucharest North (departure 10:46) – Varna (arrival 19:56), runs from June 12 to October 11, 2026;
  • International Train “Romania” 460 (9620/460): Varna (departure 09:30) – Bucharest North (arrival 16:56), runs from June 13 to October 12, 2026.

SOFIA

  • International Train “Romania” 461: Bucharest North (departure 10:46) – Sofia (arrival 20:41), runs from June 13 to October 12, 2026;
  • International Train “Romania” 460 (20231/460): Sofia (departure 07:00) – Bucharest North (arrival 16:56), runs from June 13 to October 12, 2026.

The price of a Bucharest North – Sofia (or return) ticket, in 2nd class, is EUR 33.6.

ISTANBUL / HALKALI

  • International Train “Romania” 461 (461/465/493/12504): Bucharest North (departure 10:46) – Istanbul/Halkali (arrival 09:56), runs from June 13 to October 12, 2026;
  • International Train “Romania” 460 (12503/492/464/460): Istanbul/Halkali (departure 8:00 p.m.) – Bucharest North (arrival 4:56 p.m.), runs from June 11 to October 10, 2026.

The price of a ticket from Bucharest North to Istanbul/Halkali (or return), in a 4-berth sleeper car, is EUR 57.8.

Tickets for international travel can be purchased up to 90 days in advance at CFR Călători stations and agencies open to international traffic, as well as online, directly from www.cfrcalatori.ro, in the international travel purchase section – https://bileteinternationale.cfrcalatori.ro/ro/booking/search.

For destinations in Bulgaria and Turkiye, tickets can be picked up at the station or delivered by courier within Romania. For trips to Bulgaria, tickets can also be received in PDF format (A4RT), directly on your mobile phone.

Additionally, for trips to Bulgaria and Turkiye, the Interrail offer can be used, in both the continuous and flexi versions. Interrail tickets are available at ticket offices in stations and at CFR Călători agencies selling international tickets.
