Auckland considers light rail network

auklandAuckland Transport hopes to decide by late March whether light rail is the best option to serve the central suburbs. If the city’s transport agency and council give it the green light, the light rail project could get under way within a year. The light rail network could cost more than $1 billion (897 million euros). The network would follow major arterial routes, such as Dominion, Sandringham, Manukau and Mount Eden roads, and would cover more than 30 km. According to Auckland Transport chairman Lester Levy, the light rail network could move three times more passengers that a bus line.
