Astana’s new station reached 1 mil. passengers

The number of passengers used rail services provided by newly-built Astana’s rail station, “Nurly Zhol” has reached 1 million, since its opening in June 1st. More than 2.3 thousand passenger trains transited the railway station in the first month of operation.
“The station started work on the eve of the opening of EXPO. The first millionth passenger is a great event for us. Being the largest station in the country, all eyes are on us, today we meet and see off all the guests of the international exhibition, and this, of course, is a big responsibility,” Dinmukhamed Kusainov, the head of railway station “Nurly Zhol” said.
Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev has opened the capital’s new railway station, “Nurly Zhol”, that it has received the first passenger train on June 1st. The railway complex is a six-level building with a total area of 126 thousand square meters, to which six receiving-and-departure tracks are connected. Pick-up and drop-off zone is at the level of the third floor. The station is equipped with most advanced intelligent systems of controlling and monitoring passenger traffic, queue, security and smart ticketing.
The capacity of the new station is up to 35,000 passengers per day, which will significantly relieve the load from the existing station of Astana with a capacity of 12,000 passengers per day. The station’s management said it expects a passenger flow of approximately 12 million people a year.
