Arcadis to design Sydney Harbour metro tunnel

Arcadis with its joint-venture partner BG&E it has won a lead design role on the Tunnel and Station Excavation (TSE) Works contract for Stage 2 of Sydney Metro project.
The Arcadis and BG&E joint-venture will provide civil and structural design services as part of the construction of the twin 15.5 km long tunnels which will run from Chatswood, through the CBD and on to Sydenham, including a crossing under Sydney Harbour.
“With our joint-venture partner BG&E, we will bring a combination of our global metro experience together with a long Australian heritage, going back to the Sydney Harbour Bridge,” said Phil Kajewski, Managing Director – Infrastructure Australia Pacific, Arcadis.
The two companies will work together with John Holland CPB Ghella JV, which was awarded the AUD 2.81 billion (USD 2.1 billion) Sydney Metro City & Southwest TSE works contract on 22 June 2017.
Tunnel and station excavation works are expected be completed in mid-2021, when work will continue along the 30 km length of the project to lay tracks, fit out stations and upgrade the existing rail line from Sydenham to Bankstown to metro rail.
This project win follows the recent announcement that Arcadis won the underground station design and technical services contract as part of Stage 2 of the Sydney Metro project, as joint leads in the METRON consortium with Mott MacDonald.
In July, the Infrastructure Australia added the Sydney Metro City & Southwest to the infrastructure priority list as a high priority project, by giving positive assessment for the project.
