Alstom celebrated the production of the 500th train in the Omneo Régio2N series at its plant in Crespin, in the Hauts-de-France region of France. This milestone marks an important stage in one of the longest-running train series in the French rail industry.
“With this 500th train under the contract, we are reaching a significant milestone. This confirms the quality and reliability of our product, as well as the Crespin plant’s ability to produce at a sustained pace. For over ten years, our teams have supported increased production to deliver at scale while maintaining high standards,” said Frédéric Wiscart, President of Alstom France, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
The Omneo Régio2N train contract, signed with SNCF Voyageurs, calls for the production of up to 860 trains. To date, 567 units have been ordered across ten French regions, confirming transport authorities’ confidence in Alstom’s ability to deliver over the long term.
To date, the 567 trains have been ordered in 10 of the 13 French regions, including Île-de-France, Hauts-de-France, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, and others. Added to these are recent additional orders, including for the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.
In total, the Omneo Régio2N platform will become one of the largest train series in France’s recent history.
Modular platform for regional mobility
The Omneo Régio2N platform is designed to meet the needs of passengers and transport authorities. The trains are available in lengths ranging from 81 to 135 meters, in suburban, regional, and even premium configurations for intercity services.
The configurations are flexible and include options such as custom color schemes, first- and second-class compartments, spaces for bicycles or luggage, video surveillance, and onboard internet.
The architecture, featuring single- and double-deck cars, combines capacity, accessibility, and comfort. The lower-deck cars facilitate access for people with reduced mobility, thanks to their low floors and wide doors. The trains also incorporate the “boa” concept, which allows for easy movement between cars.
The Omneo Régio2N is designed for high comfort: double-glazed windows, air conditioning, and underfloor heating ensure optimal conditions in any season. Large windows provide more natural light and better visibility.
Lightweight materials reduce the weight per passenger by approximately 15% compared to previous generations of double-decker trains. Aerodynamic solutions, efficient motors, and intelligent climate control contribute to reduced energy consumption. The train has a 95% recyclability rate.
Alstom’s Crespin plant has been responsible for the design, manufacture, and certification of the trains since 2014. Approximately two-thirds of the plant’s activity is dedicated to this project, which supports over 450 employees locally and over 550 in France.
The project involves approximately 300 suppliers in France and Europe and generates thousands of direct and indirect jobs. The Omneo Régio2N train is one of the few models certified with the “Origine France Garantie” label.
