Alstom has officially inaugurated its new office in Stockholm, strengthening its role as a leading provider of smart and sustainable mobility solutions in Sweden. The opening ceremony on 19 August was attended by Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Andreas Carlson, alongside key industry representatives.

The modern premises are designed to foster collaboration and cross-departmental communication, while also hosting several advanced laboratories dedicated to the development of railway signalling systems. From Stockholm, Alstom experts are leading work on the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) for major Swedish railways, including Botniabanan, Ådalsbanan and Malmbanan.
During the inauguration, attendees heard opening remarks from Alstom Sweden Managing Director Maria Signal Martebo and Minister Carlson, followed by a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, a musical performance, and a panel discussion on innovation and digitalisation. Guests were also given a guided tour of Alstom’s ERTMS laboratory.
“We are continuing our investment in Sweden, this time through the new office in Stockholm, which gives us better conditions to meet the growing needs for modernisation and digitalisation of infrastructure and signalling systems in Sweden,” said Maria Signal Martebo.

Expertise and sustainability
The Stockholm office brings together more than 700 Alstom employees, with expertise spanning signalling, digital systems and infrastructure. The new workspace also houses a signalling technology development centre serving both national and international markets.
“With many years of experience in the Swedish railway sector and our expertise in, among other things, infrastructure and signalling systems as a foundation, the new office — with advanced and well-equipped laboratories — gives us even better opportunities to serve our customers with high efficiency,” Martebo added.
The facility was established with sustainability as a central principle. Rather than constructing a new building, Alstom chose to renovate and renew an existing one, thereby reducing the project’s environmental footprint. Furniture and equipment were reused wherever possible, with surplus items donated or sold, and second-hand furnishings prioritised for new purchases.
Strengthening Sweden’s rail sector
Alstom has a long-standing presence in Sweden, having delivered more than 1,000 trains to the national rail network and holding several major maintenance contracts. The company is also leading the rollout of ERTMS in Sweden, both on trains and trackside.
By combining advanced signalling research with sustainable workplace practices, Alstom’s new Stockholm office is positioned as a hub for innovation and a key contributor to the modernisation of Sweden’s railways.
