Agartala-Akhaura railway project to be launched

irFunds for acquisition of land for the Agartala-Akhaura railway line that links Indian Railways with Bangladesh Railways, will soon be released by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Indian Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced. The rail link will connect West Bengal and Tripura through Bangladesh.
The project involves the construction of 15,054 km of railway tracks to connect Agartala with Akhaura in Bangladesh. Of the total track 5 km would be on Indian side and the rest in Bangladesh. The project is set to be finalised in 2017.
“The PMO has recently made an assessment of the project and directed the Ministry of Development to release funds for land acquisition and construction of infrastructure along the tracks up to the Indo-Bangla border and laying of tracks on the Indian side. We are now waiting for the detailed project report,” Singh said.
