ADIF invests EUR 63 mln to install ERTMS

ADIF-ERTMS_fotonoticiaADIF funds with a total of EUR 63.2 million the installation of ERTMS on the Atlantic Axis, between La Coruna and Vigo, and the A Grandeira Angrois curve where a terrible accident happened on July 24, 2013. A consortium of Alstom, CAF and Siemens was awarded the ERTMS installation contract.
The contract includes the installation of the traffic management system at a cost of EUR 37.5m, along with a 20-year maintenance package worth EUR 25m. This contract will extend ERTMS coverage to the entire 1668mm-gauge Galicia high-speed network, including the Ourense – Santiago line and the A Coruña – Santiago and Santiago – Vigo sections of the Atlantic Corridor. ERTMS will allow train operator Renfe to improve operational safety and raise the maximum commercial speed on the Vigo – A Coruña line to 220km/h.
ADIF speciffically asks that ERTMS to be installed at least at the end of 2016, after awarding the contract to equip the line with the system that monitors the progress of trains with a deadline and tests of a year and a half.
To secure the investment, the Ministry of Public Works has requested TEN-T support through the financial mechanism Connecting Europe Facility.
Currently, Spain has more than 2000 kilometers equipped with ERTMS.
