Softronic locomotive chosen for the inauguration of an industrial line in Sweden

In northern Sweden, a new rail connection of strategic importance for the development of industry and sustainable transportation in the region was inaugurated, with a Green Cargo locomotive manufactured by Softronic in Craiova (Romania) at the center of the event.

The Romanian locomotive was chosen to make the inaugural run on the new industrial line connecting Stegra and Boden Industrial Park to the Ore Line.

The presence of a locomotive manufactured in Romania at such an event represents more than just participation in an official ceremony. It is confirmation that the technology developed in Craiova actively contributes to infrastructure projects that are shaping the future of European rail transport, say Softronic officials in a Facebook post,.

The new industrial line inaugurated in Boden will play a key role in the development of one of Europe’s most ambitious industrial projects. The rail connection links Stegra and Boden Industrial Park to the existing rail network, facilitating the transport of raw materials and finished products to the region’s main logistics hubs and ports.

The project is part of a broader effort to develop railway infrastructure in northern Sweden and demonstrates the strategic role that rail transport plays in supporting modern industrial investments.

The Softronic Locomotive, Chosen for the Inaugural Run

During the official ceremony, Sweden’s Minister of Infrastructure, Andreas Carlson, participated in the inauguration from the cab of a Green Cargo locomotive manufactured by Softronic in Craiova. The locomotive made the inaugural run on the new rail connection, marking its official opening.

For Softronic, this moment holds special significance. The fact that a locomotive manufactured in Romania was chosen for an event of such importance reflects the trust that European operators place in the solutions developed in Craiova.

It is further proof that the performance, reliability, and efficiency of our locomotives are appreciated in some of the most demanding railway markets in Europe, says the Romanian company.

The partnership between Softronic and Green Cargo

The collaboration between Softronic and Green Cargo represents one of our company’s most significant international engagements. The first Transmontana locomotives entered service in Sweden several years ago, and since then have demonstrated their ability to operate in challenging climatic conditions, including extremely low temperatures and heavy freight traffic.

Adapted to the specific requirements of the Swedish rail network, Transmontana locomotives contribute daily to sustainable freight transport in Scandinavia and actively support efficiency goals and the reduction of environmental impact.

Romanian technology featured in leading European projects

The participation of a locomotive manufactured in Craiova in the inauguration of a rail connection with major implications for Swedish industry is a source of pride for the entire Softronic team.

“For over 26 years, we have been developing modern rail solutions, and every international project confirms that Romanian expertise can play an important role in transforming European rail transport. The event in Boden demonstrates once again that the locomotives built in Craiova do not just transport freight. They contribute to connecting industries, developing infrastructure, and building a more sustainable future for European rail transport,” say Softronic officials.
