The historic locomotive 354.195, known by the nickname “Všudybylka” (“the omnipresent” – a rough translation), will pull tourist trains through the Šumava region on two weekends in July. The trains will run between Volary, Nové Údolí, and Černá v Pošumaví, passing near the Lipno Reservoir.
The rail lines in Šumava, the mountainous region in southwestern Czechia also known as the Bohemian Forest, will once again host historic steam trains.
The national railway operator České dráhy will introduce special weekend runs on July 18–19 and 25–26, with locomotive 354.195 “Všudybylka” leading the train.
Built in 1925, the locomotive is kept in working order by the Railway Museum in Lužná u Rakovníka. After 101 years, it continues to periodically pull tourist and heritage trains.
Steam Train to the Bread Festival
On Saturday, July 18, the schedule will include two additional trips between Volary and Lenora for participants in the traditional Bread Festival held in the town.
The train will depart from Volary at 9:18 a.m. and arrive in Lenora at 9:36 a.m. The return trip is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., arriving in Volary at 10:18 a.m.
At other times, the train will run according to the following schedule:
- Volary – Nové Údolí: 11:05 a.m.–11:45 a.m.;
- Nové Údolí – Černá v Pošumaví: 12:20–13:17;
- Černá v Pošumaví – Volary: 14:40–15:47.
Trips to Lipno and “the shortest international railway line”
The route provides access to several tourist attractions in the Šumava region, including the chapel in Stožec, the Lipno Reservoir, and the Soumarské rašeliniště peat bog.
In Nové Údolí, tourists can visit the Pošumavská jižní dráha, a short museum railway line billed as “the shortest international railway.” It symbolically continues across the border between the Czech Republic and Germany for a stretch of only a few dozen meters.
Reserved-seat tickets are sold through the online store and at České dráhy ticket offices. They can also be purchased directly on the train, though a seat is not guaranteed.
For the special Volary–Lenora runs, tickets will be available exclusively on board.
